The story is a humorous supernatural farce involving a young artist, Ronald Campion, who is gifted a small Indian idol. The idol is possessed by the malevolent spirit of a "Jinn" or demon, which begins to exert a disastrous and malevolent influence on Ronald’s life, sabotaging his artistic career and his engagement to his fiancée, Sybil.  The pseudonym of Thomas Anstey Guthrie.
