The story follows four Westerners who are evacuated from a revolution in Baskul (fictional) in 1931. Their plane is hijacked and crash-lands in the Himalaya.  The survivors are led to Shangri-La, a secluded paradise where inhabitants enjoy extraordinary longevity and live in near-perfect peace.
