With Wood Engravings by Frank Martin.  A powerful satirical novel, first published in 1743 in his Miscellanies.  The book is a mock-biography based on the real-life London gang leader and "Thief-Taker General" Jonathan Wild who manipulated the legal system to run a massive underworld empire until he was hanged in 1725. Fielding uses Wild's life as a brutal allegory to attack political corruption, specifically targeting Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole.
