Barbara's History is an 1864 novel by English author Amelia B Edwards that chronicles the life and maturity of its headstrong heroine, Barbara Churchill, as she navigates relationships and travels through France, Germany, and Italy.  The story focuses on Barbara's passionate but challenging relationship with Hugh Farquhar, a wealthy and enigmatic gentleman, detailing their journey from childhood infatuation to a complex, enduring love.  The plot of Barbara's History was inspired in part by Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre.

Two volumes in a mid C19th German binding, fine ribbed brown cloth.  Volumes in fine condition.  Blindstamped borders and designs on boards.  Decorated gilt on spines, and bumped ends.  Corners bumped.  Foxing through volumes.  Good reading copies.
